Treatment of Keratoacanthoma by 5-Flurouracil Intralesional Injection

Abstract
keratoacanthoma is a rapidly growing, usually self-limited, benign tumor that has a strikimg fesemblance clinically and histologically to squamous cell carcinom.
Although the keratoacanthoma is involuted spontaneously, there are several reasons why these lesions should be treated. Theatment may hasten resolution, prevent extesive destructio of normal tissuc, and improve the overall cosmetic fesult, and
there are
no absolutely reliable diagnostic criteria to differentiate these lesions from squamous cell carcinoma. Complete excision is currently the choice of treatment for the majority of solitary in lesions located on intricate areas of the face.
Effective
nonsurgical modalities are required in such cases.
Herein we report three cases of keratoacanthoma successfully treated by intralesional injection of 5-fluorouacil, and suggest that intralesional injection of 5-fluorouracil is a effective, safe and convenient method of treatment for the multiple
keratoacahtnoma and solitary lesions which are difficult to remove surgically. (kor J Dermatol 1995;33(2) : 401~406)
